Safety signs and posters are essential for sharing important safety information in workplaces and public areas. They help alert, warn, instruct, and guide people about potential hazards and safety rules. These signs are designed with clear symbols, bright colors, and simple text. This ensures that the message is easy to notice, understand, and act on quickly.
Safety signs and posters help create a safe environment in workplaces and public areas. They provide clear safety instructions, ensuring that employees, visitors, and emergency responders know what to do. By offering the right information in the right place, these signs reduce risks and improve overall preparedness.
There are six main types of safety signs. Each type has a clear function and communicates a specific safety message:
1. Prohibition signs
These signs indicate actions that are not allowed. You can recognize them by a red circle with a diagonal line over a black symbol.
2. Mandatory signs
These signs show actions that must be followed to stay safe. They feature a blue circular background with a white symbol.
3. Escape route signs
In case of emergencies, escape route signs guide people toward exits and safe evacuation routes. They use green backgrounds with clear symbols.
4. Warning signs
These signs warn about potential dangers, such as hazardous chemicals or moving machinery. Typically, they have a yellow background with black symbols.
5. Fire signs
Fire signs indicate where fire safety equipment is located, such as fire extinguishers or alarms. You will find them on red backgrounds.
6. Information signs
These signs provide useful safety information. Think of directions to restrooms, first aid stations, or other important facilities.
Colors play a big role in safety communication. According to ISO standards, each color has its own meaning:
Red: Prohibitions or fire-related equipment (for example, No Smoking or Fire Extinguisher).
Yellow: Warnings or hazards (for example, Caution or High Voltage).
Green: Safe conditions (for example, Emergency Exit or First Aid).
Blue: Mandatory actions (for example, Wear Safety Gear).
Thanks to these color codes, people can quickly recognize and understand important safety messages. This helps keep workplaces safe and organized.
Our IMO Safety Posters show clear images and text about safety practices, guidelines, and emergency procedures. The content of each poster is designed for the specific audience and location. SafeSign also provides custom-made Safety Posters, created to meet specific needs and requirements.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) sets global safety standards for the shipping industry, including requirements for safety signage. At SafeSign, all our IMO signs comply with ISO standards and follow the official symbols and guidelines established by the IMO.
Photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) safety signs remain visible in dark conditions without requiring a power source. They absorb ambient light and emit a visible glow in low-light or blackout situations. This ensures that critical safety messages remain visible, guiding personnel during emergencies.
Unlike LED escape signs, photoluminescent safety signs do not require electricity and automatically activate in darkness. Once exposed to light again, they recharge for continued use.
